Our backyard shade tree

Our backyard tree
When the day started, we had a huge tree in our backyard that has been there since I was born. We moved here when I was a 10-year-old girl, my mom and grandparents bought the house together, then she later bought it from them. I remember as a child, that tree was about 8 inches in diameter. When I got married, my ex-husband and I bought the house from my parents and the tree was about twice the size it once was.

Today, we started the process of cutting it down. It is getting far too big for a maple tree and it was tangled up with the power and cable lines. It was a bittersweet day for me. I remember climbing in this tree…much like this guy is…well ok, maybe not QUITE so gracefully! LOL
Lonny, the tree guy

It was quite a process, starting high in the top, the 3 guys on the ground (Lee, Logan-the tree guy’s brother and John-our neighbor) had ropes that they were to pull to keep the limbs off the power lines and they let them slowly to the ground. This tree is now about 4 feet in diameter, so even the branches at the top are HEAVY!
Manning the ropes

The cleanup was underway after all the limbs were down…lots of chainsaw buzzing (and with a headache since I have a cold and haven’t felt well all day, that was not a good thing!) and dragging branches to trailers for the dump. The guys did a great job and next weekend we will finish and cut up the rest for the neighbor’s firewood pile. What a day!

Waiting...
And here is the tree as of now…waiting for it’s ultimate fate. LOL
